Thread: Short trip, 6-9

I waited for the rain to push through this morning and then loaded up and headed out on a mission to bring home about 6 decent bluegill for another try at frying them up whole rather than filleting them off. Drove through some heavy mist on the hilltops but it stayed dry once I got the the launch. I pushed off and had lines in the water about 12:15 with the air at 63, water temp was about 74. Weatherman said it was going to clear and then become breezy and whooo boy, he wasn't wrong this time. I had the first fish in the boat after about 5 minutes of trolling, a nice 12" crappie who got a pass today and went back for another day. It would be the only crappie of the trip.



Took quite a while for the next bend in the rod that resulted in this nice bluegill of about 8 1/2"; he went on ice in the cooler. He was soon followed by an average pumpkinseed who didn't want to hold still for a hero shot.



Another dry spell as the wind got stronger and then as I rounded the point, I had 2 rods bend over hard and these twin 8"ers joined the others in the cooler.



Shortly after these 2, the wind began to blow in earnest, enough to put whitecaps on the wave tops and I decided it might be best to turn around and let it push me back to the beach rather than fight it. About the time I got oriented in the right direction, had another smack on a couple of rods and twin pumpkinseeds took their turn in front of the camera and then got tossed back.



I was in pretty shallow water at this point and kept getting weeds while trying to troll so did some casting and landed a couple more average gills and ended the trip with 7 keepers. I tossed in the towel shortly after 2 and called it a day. I had what I wanted and there was no sense in fighting that wind once it got going.
