Default Disco silver & gold cure temp & time???

Last few times I’ve tried curing disco silver and gold @ 325 for 20min it turns out less glittery. Almost like the glitter goes dull from the heat.

    Any suggestions.

    Nate.

Yeah same here. Since I usually do various colors I use a base time/temp and started putting UV on instead for disco colors. Even Sally Hansen works as top coat.

Here is the temp/time chart from TJ’s Tackle. Disco colors aren’t on chart so after making sure your oven is actually correct temp I would suggest maybe 240-250 for 30-40 minutes.

Thanks super Dave. I’ll have to try the uv resins.

Could be my disco is old, but no matter what I cover the glitter with, I loose some of the luster/brightness, Like the light is being deflected.

What kind of oven and controls are you using to bake them???

I use a cheap toaster oven that seems to be +/- 20* when set at 300* (on @ 280*/off @ 320*). Bought a cheap pid controller setup off ebay and now that cheap oven cycles on/off with a 4* range (on 298*/off 302*).

Made a huge difference with the quality and color of anything I powder coat.

That might be to high a temp. Are you sure your temp is correct in oven? I bought a cheap thermometer to put in oven and my toaster oven is way hotter than the knob setting says. I'd try a lower temp as suggested for longer time.

I bake every color, even discos 320 for 20 minutes. The glitter in it is the same hi temp glitter you use for plastics. I’ve shot plastics up to 400 degrees with glitter in it. 400 degrees in oven though might be different than in plastic and could see it dull glitter some. I would check your oven temp with some type of additional thermometer. Ovens with analog dial knob temp can vary greatly. I upgraded my oven years ago to a digital. Cook temps are way better with it.

I’ll have to get out the thermometer and check the temp. I have it set to 320, but it is a cheap toaster oven soo who knows how accurate the settings are.
