Default 4’6” XUL Palms Quattro Slim report

Dropped my wife off for Physical Therapy this morning. We got there right on time , so no extra time to drive to the docks .
This gave me 30-40 minutes to actually fish .
I caught a little gill on my first cast using a Bobby Garland Itty bit Swim’r on a homemade .8g tungsten bead jig .
Although small , the little guy put a nice bend in the Quattro.
I thought , I may have found the rod I’ve been looking for .
In the short time I fished , I managed to catch eleven gills and a small fun size bass .
Three of the gills were nice , although not big by any measure, they put the little rod to the test .
Two of them and the little bass dove under the docks making me glad I was using a 4# Floroclear leader on the Daiwa J Braid X8 .
I like the little rod . It probably wouldn’t be everybody cup of tea , but the results today made me cancel my order for a 4’6” Major Craft Finetail glass rod and order another one of these .
It’ll stay cased up in the cordura tube in the car , along with an UL spinning reel , for one of those times I run across a spot to wet a line . Also it’ll make a great backup rod .
These were my three best gills and one of the prettier little ones .

Do you already have a Finetail glass or is this rod just so nice to fish that you found what you were looking for? If you don't mind, where do you order from? You seem to get them in a timely manner and I can't recall you having delivery issues, even though you mentioned on this one the outer packaging was damaged. The rod must have been packed well as it is unharmed.

I do own a 4’10” MC Finetail Glass and I love fishing with . It is a lot of fun with fish of all sizes .
I fish a lot of what I call micro jigs . Heaviest jigs are made with a size 10 Mustad Ultrapoint hook and a 4.6mm tungsten bead that weighs around 8g or just under 1/32oz .
When I go fishing , I go to catch fish . It doesn’t matter to me what size they are . I enjoy catching little 4” bluegills as much as I do the bigger ones .
And I do catch my share of 8-9” bluegills and 10”+ shellcracker. But the big ones , especially fishing from the bank aren’t available every time I go fishing.

The little 4’6” Palms Quattro makes catching the little ones a lot more fun .
The MC Finetail glass is fully capable of battling a large bass or other type of fish . I’m not sure about the Quattro, yet .
But I do know what it feels like with a 5-6” bluegill and it put a big smile on my face .
It’s a rod that casts my little jigs great and although makes catching small fish fun , it doesn’t feel whippy like an old fiberglass rod does . The MC glass is a new fiberglass and isn’t whippy.
    And at 72g , is a lightweight for a travel rod .
I love my Major Craft rods , and they are a great all around rod .
The Quattro is new and it surprised me . Not in love with the yellow and silver , but it’s growing on me .

I order from Amazon Japan . I make sure the items are listed “available “ and are for sale from Amazon Japan , not a third party .
It usually takes between 10-14 days .
Their packaging is terrible . A little bit of paper packing inside a thin cardboard box .
The Quattro comes in a four slot heavy clothe bag inside a cordura tube . The tube saved it .
Although , my MC Finetail Glass was packed the same way and the box looked worse , and it survived the trip .
The final delivery is made by FedEx , I think that’s where the rough treatment happens.

If you can find what you’re looking for at Digitaka , I highly recommend them . They know how to pack an item and a different division of FedEx makes the delivery. I’ve gotten stuff from them in less than three full days .

I swapped out the spool Soare bb500 for a Shimano Nasci 500 spool that , to me , looks better on this rod , with it being silver .
Spooled with same Daiwa J braid line , just a different color.

And got to spend about an hour with the new rod today .
Wind was definitely a factor in trying to fish today , 11mph with lots of gusts over 22mph .
I figured today would be a little different than yesterday at the docks . As I was leaving yesterday a couple of white bucket guys were unloading their vehicle, to take over the dock .
The water level continues to go down . We’ve not had any significant rain in over a month.

But the fish that were left , were the ones I bought this rod for . The little guys .
I managed to catch six small ones today in almost twice the amount of time I fish yesterday.
All caught on small plastics on my Tungsten jig .
I did try a couple of small cranks , mainly to see if they would float , they did .
And several small gills smacked them , but avoided the small treble .
I did break off my jig on a snag . For the first time , since I’ve been using braid with a leader , it broke at the braid/leader knot . Usually it breaks at the jig knot .
I tried direct tying on the braid , but went fishless in over ten minutes.
I walked back to my vehicle, put on a leader of 4# P-line Clear polymer and my first cast , afterwards , I caught a small gill . Then another about five minutes later .
I’ll continue to use a Floroclear leader . I believe it helps.
I’ll change out the polymer before I go fishing next .

The newness is wearing off and my opinion of the rod has changed a little .
Still a fun rod , but no more than my 5’ St Croix ULM rods .
It has about the same feel as the ULM rods .
Pictures of the size gills this rod was bought for .

Gillchaser, the Palm Quattro is a good travel UL rod. With so many fishing piers in southern California, mine almost always stay in the trunk...lol.

    Default Slime report continues

I took the 4’6” Palms Quattro XUL this morning paired with Soare bb500spg and some Daiwa J Braid .
Yep , I’m back to braid again.
Lure was a micro .3g streamer jig on a size 12 hook .
The water level continues to drop at all of our reservoirs and if we don’t get some rain soon , I may have to find another spot to scratch my itch
I’m enjoying shooting the docks at this particular reservoir and it’s less than ten minutes from the house, if I don’t get caught by a train going through town .
I spent right at an hour and caught eight small gills . I caught one “nice” one . A nice colorful one anyways .
The Quattro is growing on me . I think it’s mostly graphite , but it fishes similar to my glass rods .
Shoots good if I do my part , which is maybe one good cast out of ten attempts.
I’m hoping to get the hang of it eventually .
Sometimes I overshoot the dock, landing on top or hitting the top beam dropping beside the dock .
I have shot completely across , under the dock to the opposite side . So I know the rod is capable. It’s mostly shooter error .
