John: This makes lead engots to feed into linotype machines. You can see at one end it makes a hole to hang the engot on a hook so it can be automatically lowered in to a lead melting pot to supply a linotype machine that was used in old days to set type for body copy of news stories.

Knew you would know what it was, never seen one in operation but we have all the stuff to do it, pretty cool stuff.

Some of the melters were never touched beyond what that one looks like. Depending on the press you could form a column or a whole page of type. Some were reworked so a few bullets or sinkers could be cast at once.

Swampseeds dad here! They are molds used to make lead engots with a hole in one end so it can hang on a hook and to feed into a molten lead pot on a model 26 or newer lynoype macine.

Tom, I knew you would know exactly what it was. The lynotype is in the same room with it.
