    Default Fishing with Brother

My younger Brother came for a visit. Now just to give a little context to this little story. He is 3 years younger than me but at 6'4" on a 267Lb frame a bit larger than myself. As I watched him sitting in the front of my little tinny v bottom, I told him he made my boat look so small, LOL . He is quite the jokester himself, so we always have a good laugh. He is a very good bass guy, so I was watching for him to haul in a good size bass. Now as most realize these hot temps make for so slow fishing during the days. Friday, we got out late, so I really didn't expect much action, but we did get to get some time on the water together after about 30 years since our last outing together and tested out the new trailer legs. No fish but enjoyed our visit so a win for me. Saturday, we got out earlier and I watched him toss his lure for bass as good as anyone can. Me I just used my little Blue Ice jig from the back of the boat considering good practice. I watched as he missed a couple of not so solid strikes, and we had a good laugh. Then as luck would have it I tossed my jig in a spot he had moved on from and BAM, A smallish bass for me to bring in the boat. He took it off my line and held it so I could get my pic. Did the make it look bigger than it was pose. LOL

The sun was getting higher, so we went to a dock I like to hunt crappie. Now my bro is good at bassin and the bigger feehes and trout. His problem is he tries setting the hook like he does a bass . So, we are sitting at the dock, and I tell him move closer and drop a jig straight down. I have learned this is the best at this particular place. I drop mine just about two to three feet away from his. After about two times jig up from about 30 feet of water I pull in a 11 in crappie. he has jerked the lips off one. all in all in about an hour of chatting and jigging I caught a total on 5 crappie all but one were 11-to-12-inch crappie. His total was 0. Back story to this is, when was about 8 and he was 5 we were fishing at our grandfather's fishing cabin with floats and worms. Our floats were sitting side by side. I had just got my first ever two-piece rod and he was using an old metal rod. I was excited I caught a small shad. He pulls in a 5 lb bass! The reel would not ever reel it in so he through the rod down and pulled that fish in with his hands. He has never let me forget that. I was a veery upset young fellow to say the least. So after 60 years I finally got to best him at something, . We both had a blast remembering our past and had a great time fishing together. The best thing was spending time with my bro. Remember folk, time with Family is what is important. Fishing with family is what makes everything even better.

Very nice. My brother and I are planning a trip soon. He's either coming to KY or I'm heading to IL.

Great post. I get to go with my brother a couple times a year. But he is slowing down at 80. Enjoy it every time.
