    Default Horseshoe Crappie Dieoff

Hi, thought I would ask a couple questions about the status of 2 lakes I fish.

I have seen info from AGFC that they are looking in to crappie dieing at Horseshoe. There have been reports of a couple hundred crappie that have died, they are still trying to find out what happened and think it may be bacteria. Was wondering if anyone else had heard anything.

I am also curious about the dam washout at Burnt Cane, mainly if it has been repaired. When I went last year i didn't think I should even launch the water was so low.

    Thanks

There is nothing yet in the cause of the die off. I’ve spoken with the area biologist and he is not overly concerned and they will continue to monitor the lake.
As he told me, several hundred fish sounds like a lot but if you consider the number of fish harvested on a given day during the spawn, it’s not that many.

Can’t help with Burnt Cane but would like to know about that myself

Thanks, that seems hopeful on Horseshoe.

I will go over to Burnt Cane soon and post on here the condition. I do not know who is responsible for the repair and hope it is not being ignored. I dont do good on crappie there anymore but still catch bass at times.

I drove out to Burnt Cane this afternoon. The river is up and has the clear water pushed toward the landing. I didn’t take my boat, so not sure how far it is to the muddy water. When it goes back down, you won’t be able to get past the first sandbar, and “9-mile” will become “2-mile” until the levee is repaired. I haven’t heard anything on that. But it does look good right now.
