I fished Moulton Saturday, tried hard but never located the Crappie. Found Gills or Shellcracker beds here and there but all were vacant. The lake was a foot or so high and a couple feet higher than normal with visibility of about four feet and 82 degrees. I ended up working the edges anywhere a tree tossed some shade on the water. Endless small gills and bass. I ended up keeping 16 larger Gills. Beautiful day on the water, not too hot and light winds, and constant fish on the line, just no Crappie.

I cleaned fish this morning after the rain passed, everything I kept was 9" or larger including 6 Shellcrackers that were between 10" and 11 1/2". Surprisingly all the Crackers were female and had eggs. I know that Gills and Crackers will spawn throughout the summer, but seemed odd that none of these had spawned in April/May?
Another strange thing yesterday, only Bass would take my Nikko Pin Worm on the bottom, and nothing interested under a bobber. They were tearing up the little spinner with a 1/64oz jig head with a 1" slider body. I must have used 10 or 15 bodies yesterday. I didn't find the Crappie like I wanted, but still a great day.
Folks chasing big Gills need to make a trip to Moulton. Easy launch for a flatbottom off a trailer on the North side where the main creek flows in right now. Lots of other places to fish, but few offer a cooler full of Gills over 9" consistently. Not my thing but some huge Bass also.
