The Roper Team began fishing as the clock struck 6:30 AM, with their poles equipped with Vicious Line 8 pound test. Excitement was in the air as anglers competed for a shot of going to the Cabela's Crappie USA Classic. We pitched green jig heads, tipped with a minnow and a Trout Magnet float near the bank. In less than two (2) minutes we had our first crappie in the boat.
 The day before my father and I fished until about 5:30 PM We found a cove with calm water because we knew that the wind was going to be high on tournament day. As we came into the cove we started fishing around shrubs near the bank. To our surprise, the crappie were there, and I mean big ones. After catching five crappie from that area we both agreed that we should leave the spot alone until tournament day. Tip: Don't pressure the area that you're going to fish in on tournament day. Catch two (2) to four (4) fish from that area and move on. We knew that crappie and bass feed almost the same way, shallow in the morning and evening. It was late in the evening and we knew that if they were on the bank now, they would be there in the morning. Believe it or not, they were there. We caught our limit before 8:30 AM.
