dedicated to grandfathers everywhere - May 9, 2009 I was at a pond and saw an old man Sitting on the bank one day He said "If I had one more wish I'd fish here till my dying day
The Lord has been mighty good to me And I grew up here on this here land Believe me Ship that the Bluegills are bigger than this mighty hand
My Mom and dad...well they raised me And they raised fourteen others too Old dad, he was a great provider We had enough food for me and for you
My dad he was a fisherman He caught Catfish, 'Gills and Perch He taught us all about hard work And he always took us to church
After church he would sell his catch For other goods, well he would barter He said son, all I have for you this day Is my last name which is carter
But If I had just one more wish I'd fish here till my dying day Spending time here with my family As long as the good Lord let me stay
Well, with that thought he baited a hook And he put on just one more worm I thought it funny to just sit there And watch that little worm squirm
He tossed it in the water then And leaned back in his great big chair Looking over the water with a big old grin With just one more fishing story to share
Well folks, if Old Ship had one more wish I'd give him that one more day Just to fish with him and to listen To all that he had to say.
